i can connect with the ethernet cable, but although my puter is wireless enabled, and it appears to be connected to a network, when i try to browse to a site it says 'server not found'. my ISP says its the wireless interface on the computer, and fujitsu siemens say its a wireless problem and hence absolutely no responsibility of theirs. im not a teccy person and feel like crying. i might as well have chucked 400 quid out of the window. what can i do now no-one will accept any responsibilty. neither party will even set up a conference call and talk to each other. my computer is under warranty.

I have some sympathy with both your ISP and Fujitsu.

Your ISP is responsible for getting their signal to your house which they seem to have done, and Fujitsu is responsible for providing a working laptop which they have done.

If you have chosen to set up a wireless network then I am afraid that is your responsibility.

(Not wishing to be hard but trying to see it from their point of view).

Here is a short article that may help you set up your wireless network:

I bought a wireless router a few weeks ago and had never set one up before.

I AM very technical and managed to get it to work, but can understand it may seem complex if you are not technical.

I am more than willing to try to help you get your laptop and router working.

Can you tell me the name of your ISP, the make and model of your router, and the make and model of your laptop.

Also the operating system (Windows version) on your laptop.

waitrose is my ISP, router is d-link dsl2640b, laptop amilo pi2515 and im using vista.
OK, thanks for the info.

When you say you get "server not found", at what point do you get that?

Do you get it trying to connect your laptop to the wireless router, or can you connect ok to the router but not to the internet ?

Have you gone into your router administrator page and set up your own wireless network name (SSID)?

When you ask your laptop to "View Available Wireless Networks" does it find your network?

Do you have any router wireless security on (if so turn it off until you have got the thing working)
You say you are running Vista.

I wonder if the router works with Vista.

Here is a list of d-link products that work with Vista and your router is not on the list

http://www.dlink.com/products/vista-support/

Has anyone from d-link confirmed if the router does work with Vista?
