Is there a simple guide (and tool(s)) for shortening telephone cables, ie cutting the cable to the right length and fitting the plug back on so the cable will work again?

 You can buy a kit from the DIY shops (i got mine from B&Q) to shorten a phone cable it comes with in structions and a special tool to re-fit a new plug, there not very expensive either. Im not sure if you can do data cables?
