I have recently aquired some trojan's from somewhere the trouble is one of them has disabled my windows firewall , i have tried several things to start it up again with no luck. Can anyone suggest how it can be done as i am feeling very vulnerable at the moment. Thanks. moonraker.

thanks for your reply , i did run that a while back and although it told me there were several unwanted items present i did cure the problem with starting my firewall again. someone has suggested running my start up disc to see if that will fill in any missing bits, so i might try that next but thanks anyhow. Oops what i meant to say was it DIDNT fix my problem. Moonraker.
No worries. But if it is down to infections, running the start up disc wont cure your problems. You probably have two choices if the normal scanners arent fixing it.
You could pay your local IT guy to tell you to format, or you could take advantage of one of the many free forums that specialise in cleaning computers. Sadly AB cant accomadate that kind of help, yet.
mac ... what you saying?
<Sadly AB cant accomadate that kind of help, yet>
do you mean you can't
<running the start up disc wont cure your problems>
what do you suppose it's for then? ...

why? ...

moon - the startup disc (by this I assume that you mean the system recovery disc) is the obvious solution ... a system rebuild will of course fix the problem

however it won't fill in the bits ... it will completely overwrite the system ... restoring it back to the factory settings
I wasnt slagging off AB. I just meant the forum doesnt accomadate the posting of long decriptive logs or speeches with BB code.
And when the discs were mentioned I assumed a system repair was being suggested, not a full restoration, which is a tad extreme, but will do the job.
