He wrote a short work about French art (5)
A_S_ _

think short work is OP

Law Lord appearng in drink advert (6)

A _ L_ D _

Coming down the tree, like voices prohesysing war?
(9)
A_C_S_R_ _

the S comes from AESOP and the last letter would be L if it is ALLUDE

agree with allude ...law lord = lud inside ale (drink)

last one looks like ancestral (coming down the tree) but still working on the last bit of the clue...
last one is quote from Coleridge "and 'midst this tumult Kubla heard from far Ancestral voices prophesying war"

have you any more letters for 6d?

Aesop is correct - a short work = a + op about es (French art = art as in old English, the present indicative of the verb "to be"....the French for "to be" is etre which can be "ES") I hope you understand my explanation - it's a bit early in the day!
