I have a 10 year old cacti which I have inherited, its very small (the size of a necterine)and I am told its a peyote and rare. How often and how much do I have to water the little thing, I have been giving it a teaspoon every couple of weeks and the soil, grit substrait dries quickly.
Please help as I do not wish to kill it
Many thanks

Hi there fishbait, you may not be aware of search engines. These enable you to search the world wide web for a word or phrase. Into one of the more popular search engines (google) I entered the word 'peyote' and found lots of sites. Just click on one to enter

hello spud queen, thanks for that its very becoming of you. Are you a real gay potato? I didnt know such things existed in the horticultural realm. I am aware of search engines that will give many hits for peyote, non of which give any advise on care and cultivation.
Perhaps if there was less sarcasm on here it would become a more popular site where people could gain from the wealth of knowledge that is out there to be shared.
As it stands you just criticised the complete network of people who come on here, nice one.

That website says this about watering your plant:

Peyote loves being watered and fertilized during the hot weather. When the soil mixture has good drainage it can be watered twice a week and fertilized once a month. I also know of commercial growers who mist their plants with plant food daily. The fine misting moistens the surface of the soil and seems to provide sufficient nourishment. Water should be withheld when the environment gets cold, as it does here at the Church and in Peyotes natural environment.

It's extremely hard to kill any cactus through lack of water. It's much easier to harm it by over-watering.

Give it a tablespoon or two of water once every 4 to 6 weeks from March to September. Don't water it at all from October to February. With a bit of luck, you might well get it to flower next spring.

If you did manage to kill it, you could always get high on the remains. It's a source of mescaline, which is an extremely powerful hallucinogenic drug ;-)

Chris beat me to it. I''ll give it a good home if you like, and I'll report back afterwards (although the text may be a little 'fuzzy'...)

If you don't want to part with it, the mist approach is best - the needles of a cactus are designed to remove the tiniest droplets of water from the air.
Sorry I upset you fishbait, but I do find it annoying when people come on answerbank expecting someone to google the information they want for them. Maybe I should have said that if you google 'peyote care of' you can get some information that way. eg

I can assure you I did not mean to criticise the complete network of people who come on here. I am one of the people who come on here and I have asked questions on this site, but only ones I have not been able to answer myself by 'googling'.
