I can't spell it ,but why do cows always have runny poo?I know they are ruminants with lots of stomachs, but so are sheep and they do nice rabbity little pellets, whereas you just don't want to stand behind old Buttercup at the wrong moment!

I know rabbits recycle their faeces first time round, hence their secondary droppings are rather dessicated and devoid of nutrients.

There are also many ruminants that live in arid regions -qv. many species of gazelle, camels etc. etc. that don't have 'runny poo' for the sake of preserving moisture.

So, I'm as curious as you, chickenwoman, about bovines' (as opposed to ovines') ...err.... droppings.

Are you sure you're not (Geordie) Ruth Archer in disguise?

Ooooh, Deevid.

I researched this subject a bit in Germany in 1984, and this was the conclusion of my studies:
