Aww, I'm really sorry to hear that, it must be a very sad time for you.  Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to get a definate answer on here.

I would imagine it will depend upon a number of factors -how advanced the cancer is, if it was detected early the outlook will be so much better - what treatment she is having, can they operate, will she have chemo or radiotherapy?

Ask your mom's doctor/consultant, I'm sure they will be able to answer any questions and maybe put your mind at rest.

Sorry to hear about your mom.  Her prognosis depends upon how early the cancer was detected, and if or how far it has spread.  The following website gives some further information:

Best of luck to you and you mum, and keep in mind that science is at work every day, and you musn't ever give up hope!

Really sorry to hear about you mum cat_lover. My dad got prostate cancer and for years people always said you don't die of prostate cancer you die with it because it's so slow developing. 18 months later we buried him. What I'm trying to say is that no matter how long your mum's got left appreciate every moment and tell her you love her every day. Always try and be positive as a positive mental attitude can get you far and remember to listen to you mum as she's just as scared about this as you are. One thing I always regret is that I always said "don't be silly" when my dad said "well if i'm here next year then we'll do that" - should've listened to him.
