i am looking to but a pioneer dvd recorder,the one i am interested in say it has multi region,what does this mean.Sorry if it's a dumb question but i am a female trying to survive in this world of technology

Commercial DVDs (i.e. the pre-recorded ones with movies on, that you buy in the shops) are coded to a particular geographic region. For example, Europe is Region 2. A DVD sold in Europe will only play on a DVD player intended for the European market. You can't, for example, play a DVD bought in the UK on a DVD player in the USA (which is Region 1). Similarly, if you import a DVD from the USA, it won't play on a UK DVD player.
At least, that's how it's meant to work. (It's all part of a licensing agreement between the movie companies and the manufacturers of DVD players and recorders). However, DVD players are normally manufactured so that they'll work in all regions. The 'region-coding' is only added at the end of the process. It's usually a very simple matter to remove the coding, so that any DVD can be played.
Theoretically, manufacturers and retailers aren't meant to sell 'region-free' (= 'multi-region') DVD players but many players (and recorders) are now advertised as 'multi-region' because they come complete with the instructions to remove the region coding.
So, in short, 'multi-region', means that you'll be able to play DVDs imported from the USA and elsewhere. (it's got nothing to do with the recording function). Many Hollywood movies, and US TV shows, are only released on Region 2 DVDs, so the 'multi-region' facility is useful if you wish to import such DVDs.
