Do the glowplugs work OK? Have you filled the cold start reservoir? On a cargo, I think the reservoir is under the front flap. Looks sort of like a tapered test tube, and before you ask, no, I can't remember what you fill it with! I think it is a special fluid rather than diesel. This sort of pre- starting system is no longer put on new trucks. The joys of owning a 'vintage' vehicle!
when you say it doesnt like starting, do youmean it puts up an rgument with the pros and cons of running or does it splutter or just turn over and not fire?

Does not have glow plugs, it just turns over and does not fire, but fine when not cold starts with no problems. It does start eventually but takes forever and worries me that may even drain new battery i put on a few weeks back.
think it DOES have a flame start device, most of the 2711e family of engines did. tilt the cab, and look where the air intake pipe meets the inlet manifold and if it is fitted there will be both a fuel feed pipe and an electric feed. the unit contains a coil which is heated electrically which in turn burns the diesel that is fed in as the engine cranks. if it IS fitted with this device then dont use easy start or such like. other than this, it could be a faulty non return valva in the fuel pump allowing the diesel to run back to the tank overnight.

It`s one of the signs of advancing years.  I`m in my late 50`s and have problems getting started on cool, never mind cold, mornings. Have had fuel pump treatment with some effect but I still don`t run as I used to.

Any advice most welcome.

Fantastic, flame start that makes sense as i was miffed when told it did not have glow plugs, would not think it was valve as it starts when not cold. would you know if this is an easy part to replace. Thanks very much for your help with this.
yeah it is fairly easy to swap, but first check the basics like is the fuel supply getting to it ok or is the electric current getting through. wherever else i've seen a similar device fitted there has been a push button wired in to energise it. if memory serves in this case a relay controls this. any auto electricians out there with long memories who can help?
