I only know of Rolf's version. Not saying that Tommy Steele couldn't have sung it on TV at some time, but I'm not aware of him recording it. Steele wasn't averse to doing the odd kiddy-friendly tune though, most notably Little White Bull - could your dad be thinking of that one?

Yes Tommy Steele did sing the court of king caractacus, i should know i was brought up on his music, many moons ago i had a cassette of Tommy Steele (given to me by my mum for xmas) called "Family Album" and it had all his hit songs on and the king of court caractacus was one of them, it was also sang by Rolf Harris.
