thanks to alcibiades and merlinius.
I assumed barrows but thought they but are usually handcarts (barrow boys?}and wheelbarrows for gardens etc
thought of ashy but can't make sense of the grammar i.e. colon after@hot' and comma after 'the'and would appreciate explanation please
I'm still looking for 14d windin the willow character. Moley? but again need explamation
Still, grateful for your help
As suggested, 14d is TOWED (drew), sounds like TOAD as WITW.
11a looks a complete mess to me and can't make much sense of it especially if it's from The Daily Telegraph. Are your sure about the exact clue and no. of letters?
I personally think there's a typing error and the clue should read 'White hot : outside say, may be molten.
It then makes far more sense and then ASHY matches the clue both normally and cryptically ie ashy meaning white and the letters of the word 'say' surrounding 'h' for hot!
