Dr Browns bottles
Has anyone tried them, what did you think.
Just fed the piglet with one and winded her, she burped and a little milk came up (not unusual) but I was wondering what the benefits of using these bottles are? Should I be winding her? Are they the all singing all dancing bottles they claim to be? note: the piglet f@rts a lot and this seems to distress her, will they help with that?

i used them with little CRX and have already got some for this baby warpig.
I found them great. Little CRX could down 6ozs in just a couple of minuted and we had to fight to get bottle off of him to stop him getting air when we used others. He had terrible wind and was colicky so we used infacol but that made him worse.
When we changed to Dr Browns the difference was instant. he was happy to get a full feed as fast as he wanted and would not be affected by such wind. Yes we still need to wind him but not as much came up and he didnt suffer from green / yellow poo as much (thats a sign of wind in formula fed babies).
I cant recommend then enough although they can be pricey. Boots sell them in most stores for �10 for 2 x 9oz bottles. ebay can sometimes have some bargains too. Oh and you can buy the spare valves and parts direct from Dr Browns if required.

HI warpig, are you trying them because piglet is full of wind or because she is colicky?
I use tommee tippee closer to nature bottles and boots own wide neck bottles. Both of these have anti colic valves built in to the teats. When I had my first, I used Avent bottles and found she didnt really suffer with colic but they just may have been the case no matter what I would have used. With this one I found the best thing for colic is the Colief drops. She will still have the odd attack of colic, maybe once or twice a week, but compared to having her screaming every evening like before, the odd attack is nothing!
When I asked my HV about Dr Browns, she said her personal belief is that the bottles with anti colic valves were just a gimmick to make you spend more and that they made no difference (sorry red, I know you swear by them) she recommended the colief drops and they have made such a huge difference, I will stick with using those rather than buying more bottles that may not work.

Hmmmm, the piglets poo is mustard yellow but I thought (according to the midwife) that that was normal.
Am not really sure what to do as dont think it is wind, she has been fed, changed and winded and she is still all go. Arms and legs going like a fiddlers elbow and she is wide awake! Just stuck a dummy in her mouth and that seemed to placate her (but for how long!!!) god, I wish they had a baby dictionary!

Morning psychick, well as for bum fluffs, she really seems in distress, she doesnt normally cry but this gets her going and they are loud and numerous, its so horrible to see a baby in distress:-o( Not sure if she is constipated as when she goes, boy oh boy does she go and that doesnt bother her as much as the f@rts (also 'goes' once a day).
As for colic versus wind, er, how will I know the difference? D'oh! I reckon colic has the baby, knees drawn up, screaming the house down, inconsolable. Thankfully if that is it, it hasnt happened. The piglet is a good baby and rarely cries so I am assuming it is just trapped wind. she is sound asleep now which is good, maybe the Dr Browns did work! god, how dull is my life, this is all I have to talk about (or wnat to talk about )!!!!!!
Oh Red, sorry havent replied to your e=mail yet but thought you would like to know that I watched mrwarpig with the baby and not a bit of wonder she has him up all night! Everything he does is almost regimented, also if she so much as sniffs he is over at her checking if she is ok, heaven forbid if she blinks, that is a definite sign that she needs lifting and disturbed (give me strength)!!!!!!

Mrwarpig could be discussing (one way) the state of the US economy with her, she f@rted once when he was talking about it to her, think that speaks volumes!

Im no expert but I would think she isnt suffering with colic, like you said, she would be screaming and inconsolable. If she is happy to be talked to and amused and not crying, I would say she is perfectly happy and just not needing sleep. Mine is spending more and more time awake will happily lay there watchng what is going on around her. Unfortunately she does sometimes do it at 4am! lol
I was also told yellowish poos are normal, but I was told that at about 3 weeks, not sure how old they are before it changes? Theyre also quite runny and assuming this is still normal too as she is putting on weight well and seems happy and healthy?

maybe it depends on what they are drinking as to the colour. Certainly with formula (sma) anything yellowy green indicated wind with litle CRX and yellow to brown was normal but soon settled to brown.
He was born in height of summer so often needed water too otherwise he got consitpated and more tummy aches.
Psy, your midwife may well be right about the anti colic bottles but as it seemed to work for us i wont go back to standard bottles now just in case :)
sounds like Lexi has her dad wrapped around her little finger already. Mr CRX was like that with ours and later on it can make things very difficult with bedtime routines and night sleeping isometimes. little CRX has only just started sleeping through the night again following about a year of him waking and crying for drinks all night. Daddy would always give in first for an easy life.
