Electric cable finding

I need to put up a shelf, but there are cables in the wall. What is the name of the device you can use to locate electric cables? I can't buy one until I know what it's called!!

They're often just called a cable and stud finder (stud being timber uprights in a stud wall)
I'll have a look around..............be back in a minute.........
