what is the law regarding public liability when a friend of the builder does work that later causes a problem I.E. a pipe leaks and floods a room, the man who fitted the pipes was not covered by insurance but the main builder was
Does the main contractor's insurance cover the 2nd man's work
The builder claims that it is not his responsibilty even though he got the man to do the work.
many thanks

But as I see it, your contract is with the builder - not with the person he got to do the job. Therefore you look to the builder for any costs incurred in putting things right. Either he claims from his own insurance (if he has the necessary cover) or he reimburses you himself.

Many thanks Dave
I think themas is correct although the man who fitted the pipes should have insurance, as the main conrtactor ultimately it will be down to the builder (The main Contractor) he should make sure people that work for him sub contract have adequate insurance. that is how I see it anyway.
