Is it just me or is the search engine really not very good? Some things just dont show up, and others do but hundreds and hundreds or them that arent related.

Just a thought.

thanks

I think it should be adjusted so that you can specify if you are looking for a word in a title, a question, or an answer.  And in any case, the list of answers should be in chronological order and give dates instead of just a long list.
'Category Search' doesn't work as well. I go to the category and post question heading to find the answer there.
triple hear hear and I think that a few of us, inc me, have said this before

Quite a few of us have said this before. I once did a complete site search for 'Vanilla Sky'. Instead of taking it as one phrase it searched for all occurrences of vanilla and of sky. I ended up with lots of threads about Sky TV.

I'm hoping that improvements will be made to the search facilities within the next round of upgrades.

"I'm hoping that improvements will be made to the search facilities within the next round of upgrades" (and other comments) -- yes, yes and yes. We know as well as you do that the Search is imperfect. It has been for some time and wil remain so until the techies have the time and resource to address it. I'm not technical at *all* but am told that this is a major operation and very much on the To Do list. I can't be more specific because i don't understand all the long words they use.

One point to note: the 'has your question been answered before' facility searches the question title only. (Hence "Hint: A clear and concise title helps to deliver better results") That's why so many new users post the same question when we're discovered by the likes of a 'Pink' or 'Marlboro' quiz... they aren't posting the same question title, so don't see the question has already bene asked and answered. The techies know all about this.
