Has anyone out there never had a sick day off from work because they either never get sick or if they do, they battle on regardless?

Yeh,my hubby! His head would have to fall off before he'd go sick.  He pushes himself too hard sometimes.
I've never had a day's sick.  Mainly its cos I'm lucky enough to rarely get ill.  On the 2 or 3 occasions I have been, I've not been so unwell that I couldn't do my job. (My Dad never had a day's sick either but I think that was cos he was so stubborn he'd never admit he was ill!)
My dad has never had a day off sick either. And i never had a day off sick from school or uni. My attendance was always 100%. Apart from when i'm bunking uni lol.
My husband falls ito this category. He would have to be literally on his hands & knees before taking time off work.
I haven't had a day sick since I started work, seven years ago. I am lucky in that I work in a pharmacy dept, so there are always people and drugs on hand should I feel ropey and need advice or medicine. Some o my collegues however seem to take a different view of their responsibilites however. I suppose it's all down to education. I do get frustrated when people are paid whilst off sick tho'.

I can't remember my husband being off.  He just soldiers on and then complains all evening when he comes home and acts like a bear with a sore head.  He must think he's indispensable!

My dad will only stay off work sick when he absolutely has to.  When he broke his arm he got the cast removed earlier as they wanted to put a new one back on - he wouldn't let them and went back to work with no fuss.

Having said that, I find it extremely irrating when people come into work when they are clearly not well enough.  Firstly, I don't want to catch their colds which they invariably spread to the rest of the office; secondly, I cannot stand the martyr act 'I've got so much to do, I couldn't possibly not come in' etc... and lastly expecting sympathy to be lavished upon them for 'struggling in'.

Sorry - rant over now.

Simon C, I can't believe you get frustrated at people getting paid while off sick. Would you rather they bring their illness for everybody else - employees, customers etc - to catch? When I was pregnant a girl I worked with was often sick and would never stay home. Needless to say I ended up catching it really bad and it didn't clear up for over a week.

It's just selfish! I try to avoid going anywhere when sick.
On another note though, I think that the older generation are just raised to complain less. My grandmother won't say anything, or even make a sick face until it is completely unbearable or she needs to go to the ER. There's just this "no excuses" mentality.

I've had my fair share of sick days off. No point in spreading germs or going in doing the martyr thing, being unable to concentrate and not being very productive!

If you are seriously ill then you take time off, full stop. This mentality of going to work till you drop makes ME sick. We already work long hours a day, we don't take lunch breaks, we don't take our full holiday entitlement, we work unpaid overtime and we enjoy the shortest number of bank/public holidays in Europe, hurrah.

Try working in a call centre all day with a streaming cold, taking approximately 15 calls per hour and talking non stop; well nigh impossible.  Also in an air conditioned atmosphere with all the windows shut tight and 50 other people, is it fair to spread your germs!
