It's protected under Schedule five of the Wildlife and Conservation Act 1981. It is not currently endangered but is protected from being taken, killed etc
dont see them too often- my mother has them living under the concrete path in her garden on the Isle of Wight. Was thinking dont see as many these days as when I was a kid many years ago. But I guess I dont go crawling through the same places I used to back then!
They are still about in one of the Yorkshire Dales. (I won't say which one)
