Drawing and painting

I need a new hobby and quite like the idea of drawing or painting. I was rubbish at art during school so the question is, is it a skill that can be taught or is it innate? I suppose it depends on what you want to draw?

Thanks in advance

Personally I think that it is a talent you are born with, like singing or playing football. You can certainly be taught to draw or paint better than you do now, though I think that all the brilliant artists (and come on now, there aren't many of them around!) are born not made.

But why not have a go? As I've said, you can be taught to be better than you are now, but your enjoyment is the most important thing, and if you enjoy drawing or painting then do it!
Try photography that is artistic but you don't need to be born artistic to do it.

I did see an evening class advertised once "Painting for those that think they cannot paint". I was tempted but never went for it.
Have a go, if Damien Hirst can do it anyone can. Spudqueen's right You might have some fun!
