Both! Geographically, Azerbaijan is in Asia; but it is a member of the Council of Europe, so presuambly would wish to be considered a European country.

Azerbaijan is a member of UEFA, footy fans - Italy just beat them in a Euro2004 qualifier. It's madness, in terms of geography (which traditionally dictates that Europe stretches east to the Urals and the Bosphorus) but politicking got in the way. Baku, the Azeri capital, is 1085 miles east of the Bosphorus. Kazakhstan is also in UEFA, which is even more barmy if you ask me (Almaty is 2434 miles east-northeast of the Bosphorus!)
