Hi

I have a 2 year old tabby and since being steralised she has started balding on her rear legs and inside her thighs. the vet checked for ticks and mites and said that she must lick herself as a comfort. thing is shes not really a stressful cat just a bit shy. i thought she might have an allergy to prawns so ive stopped those to see if it makes any difference.

has anyone got any more insight into this??
thanks

It's a common location for a flea allergy. Has she been treated for fleas?

With fleas, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence!
I have three cats chelseacorri and one of mine has an allergyto frontline, thought we were going to lose him some years ago.The other two are fine on it,so has she been on frontline?
Question Author
she has had frontline about 3 times so an allergy to this is possible. I spoke with her vet earlier and she said that shes almost sure its and obsessssive compulsive disorder and that it will help if she goes on cat prozac for a while.

This also makes sense because we have moved in the last 8 months and been away several times so this could be more stressful for her.

thanks for your advice on this
It can happen as a result of hormone imbalance after sterilisation. This is not uncommon and I am really surprised that a vet didn't think of this.
AWWW poor kitty, one my cats started loosing her fur a couple of months ago and she was constantly cleaning herself, my vet suggested she may have a flea allergy, even though there was no sign of fleas. she gave her a flea treatment, and for my other pets, she also gave her an injection to stop with any itchin she may have been having due to allergy, she got better within a few days and the fur grew back within few weeks,

its just a shame they cant tell you whats up!
