What happens at the border crossing between two countries, one of whom drives on the left, the other on the right?

Going through a border crossing often involves being channelled into single lanes for customs etc checks to take place; and it is therefore easy to ensure that drivers rejoin normal tranffic on the correct side of the road. For a comprehensive website on this wholes subject see http://www.travel-library.com/general/driving/driv

Are there any? Most left-driving countries are islands, I believe. UK & Japan for example.
Sweden was a 'left hand drive' country until 1967, when it switched to the right in line with the countries with which it shares a border - Norway, Finland. The main border crossings would have had filters and single lanes but I'd have beeen more worried in the northern regions - rural, quiet, underpopulated and with scores of semiofficial and unmanned crossings. Imagine the trouble you could get have had there! When Sweden did change -- at 3.00am on 5 Sept 1967 -- traffic speeds were greatly reduced for twomonths to ensure that head-on collisions were minimised!
Some time ago I heard about a country (can't remember which but I'll try to find out) where they drove on one side of the road in the country and the other in town. Apparently this lasted for a number of years. Sounds crazy but I was told this in all seriousness.
