doncaster airport...

it is my understanding tht doncaster airport is also known as robin hood airport... why is this? Does doncaster have any links to robin hood?

Historical evidence points to Robin Hood having come from Yorskire. He's said to be buried at Kirkleees Priory in West Yorks - I think! - and Loxley is in south Yorkshire - hence Robin of Loxley. Donaster is also in Yorkshire, so I think perhaps the link stems from the above information.
Sherwood Forest, although now being in Notts, covered a vast area - perhaps up to south Yorks. Most of the story appears to be fable, as it's argued that if the man ever lived at all, he could've simply been a yeoman, and not Lord of the Manor.
