Does anyone know the name of a contraption that every shop had, before chip and pin and even before swiping cards and signing a printed slip, came along.

The cashier would placed your card onto the handheld machine, within set guide slots, then place a carbon copy slip over it and slide across the moving part to gain an impression of your card.

credit card swipe machine i called it - still have it and use it when we have a power cut! i think the technical name was a manual imprinter - when i needed to order new ones.
