Hi, eastender, you can try this,

Click to open System.

In the left pane, click Advanced system settings. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.

Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, click Change.

Clear the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives check box.

Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.

Click Custom size, type a new size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, click Set, and then click OK.

Increases in size usually don't require a restart, but if you decrease the size, you'll need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. We recommend that you don't disable or delete the paging file.

good luck
You would be better off addressing the underlying cause.

Windows uses virtual memory when there is not enough real memory to cope with all the programs that you are running. Because virtual memory is actually a file on your hard disk, and the contents of your real memory are swapped in and out according to need, virtual memory is MUCH slower than real memory.

So the best solution is either to reduce the number of applications and processes that are running or buy and fit some extra memory.
As rojash says, fix the problem by putting more real memory in (RAM).

Note, there is a section called computers under technology that is better for questions like this.
