How do you switch off this really annoying "feature" on a Dell laptop, whereby, it clicks without you clicking?

For example, you leave the mouse pointer hovering over a link or button in Internet Explorer, and the computer clicks it for you without you doing anything.

Are you using Vista by any chance? This sounds like the sort of behaviour encountered when "tapping" is enabled in Mouse settings.

Try this. Go into Control Panel / Mouse / Device Settings / Settings and UNCHECK "Enable Tapping".
lol I've just spent 2 days trying to find this myself ... expected to find it where kempie said myself (it always was there before)
but in this version of the driver utility
there was another step .... which (like a dummy I overlooked ' cause I was using a real mouse at the time)

in device settings
highlight the touchpad device - then click on settings

then in tapping .... remove the tick
