My friend is going on holiday to Sri Lanka soon. She has always been bitten by mozzies in tropical climes, even though she takes the precautions..'off' spray etc. Can anyone help with suggestions that may help her avoid them, what colours to wear, what to eat etc....

I have friend who swears by yeast tablets to repel mozzies. She says you have to take loads, start well in advance and keep it up all the time you are there
I've heard that eating garlic helps to ward them off but can't say I tried it myself. Also, the juice from a fresh lemon helps to soothe bites and prevent more when rubbed on the skin, I've tried that one!!

Thank you both! I've emailed a link to this page to her.

I went to uganda in the summer and managed to avoid getting bitten. I was told you shouldn't wear perfume or anything which gives off a nice smell because the mozzies like it too!
dont wear blue or walk around wet

El duerino is pulling your leg.

I hear that citronella oil is supposed to repel mosquitos. There are citronella oil candles in shops like Paradise Road and Odel. Or your friend could burn insense sticks.

I have also heard that citronella is good but I have to say that I went to Sri Lanka myself, we toured the island so we visited different parts of the country, but I can't remember any mosquitoes.  I really enjoyed visiting Sri Lanka and hope your friend has a good time.
