Is there any way to remove the dial up tone of an external modem?

I have a Tornado FMV 56K external modem and was wondering if there is a way to remove or quiten the noise it makes each time I dial up?

Depends on the operating system but try start > (settings) > conrol panel > phones and modems > there should be a speaker volume control on the properties of the modem.
