i don't know about cling film but if it is to stop water getting in then my mot man said to use a clear glue and that has been ideal

Perhaps cling film is the wrong description

As i recall it is like a clear type cellotape material - that this person used , to place over a cracked headlight glass .
You couldn't tell it was there - and got his vehicle through it's MOT , without having to change the glass
This isn't what you asked for but it might help:

Alternatively, I can't see why the clear adhesive film, that any stationers will sell you, wouldn't do the job. (A piece of it has been holding my bedroom window together for many years!).
