I am going to wipe my PC but want to keep the music.

Is it best to compress the files i have & save them to a DVD or is there another way?

If so, how? (I need an idiot proof guide!)

If they are mp3 or wmp they are already compressed. Put them on as many dvds (or usb memory sticks) as it takes.
Ethel's way is best. But what I normally do is get all my songs into an .zip file, and then uploading it to a host.

For example, I use www.mediafire.com i'd upload my zip files, then wipe/change computer then go to the Download link it gives you and download the .zip's and extract them to my music folder.
depending on how much music in Gigabytes you have, there are various ways
