hi ,

do I need to use a spring compressor to remove a macpherson strut, or is there something I can utilise that will do the job? If I need the tensioner, where can I get one on hire? or can I just take a chance and not use one?
thanks all.

There is no need to use a spring compressor. If you have undone the top and bottom of the strut, then the axle will lower and you will be able to remove it with ease.

you dont need the spring compresors to take the strut itself off the car, you only need the spring compressors if you intend to remove the spring from the strut. they are fairly cheap to buy from most motor factors you can get draper, sealey, laser, kamasa etc etc.
