Are any non-scotch people having a Burns Supper tomorrow?

I must admit I do enjoy a nice haggis, sherry trifle and a few tots of single malt.

But there are no pubs here that are interested to my knowledge.

Come to think about it are any actual scotch people having a Burns Supper?

Right Stovies.

Big pan

Roast beef dripping from the butcher (you sometimes have to ask for it but you will get it anywhere)

Peel about 5lbs of tatties -does the next day as well and slice them thickly.

In meantime put the dripping in the pan to melt and add about 4 or 5 onions.

Leave thenm to simmer until they are soft and then lash the tatties in.

Season with salt and loads of pepper.

Crucial -just add enough water to cover the tatties (after you have stirred everything together of course)

You dont want to have to drain -that is the key.

Cook on a very low heat and stir ocassionally.

Once the tatties have become mushy add the corned dog and give it a good stir round.Cook without the lid to let them steam off -voila Stovies.

Stovies -the staple diet of every Scot.

Serve with oatcakes.

You make stovies just the way I make them. The roast beef dripping from the Butcher makes all the difference I think.

I like white stovies as well - make as per drisgirls recipe - (remember to chop up the onion first!) Then add some beef stock instead of water and no meat. Or substitute the corned beef for browned chopped up sausage or lorne sausage. Fab!

tasty -I have been known to make mince stovies -its as myself and crue have said all in in getting the roast beef dripping from your butcher and that aint no Scottish thing -just ask. -you will be hooked -O our stovies -they and well r nIrnBru are the spaple tale away for a hangover.Its up with Irtn Bru in the takeaways in Scotland.Tell ya in my onesome days theres been many a time that R or J have been thrown down to the the takeaway for Stovies- wa haaay -lol
Irn Bru - the orange menace! lol. Being from the east coast originally, I can't stand Irn Bru and it is my aim in life to get my kids to adulthood without tasting it. ;0) I was shocked when i saw the unmistakable hue of irn bru in a childs bottle while walking round the shopping centre. But then again, maybe they were washing down their stovies to cure their hangover! I like a nice cold glass of milk with my stovies.
lol annie, the boot of my car is always full of Irn Bru, but just cos I like the taste, not for a hangover cure
weeal, when I first started working at my present company, the coffee and tea machines also dispensed Irn Bru - you could have it still or fizzy...absolutely true - they don't anymore though - now they do all sorts or blended fancy cofees which I have been told are all foul - i only drink water or milk.
