Has anyone out there hated their job so much that they just couldnt bare to go there anymore?

I currently hate my office job and my boss makes my life a misery that I just cant face going in anymore, and if it werent for rent and bills I would just leave, but my boyfriend just doesnt understand, he just keeps saying another job will come up, but I cant stand my work now, let alone having to fill in forms, waiting for the closing date, then waiting for them to go through applicants...etc

Has anyone else had this or having this? I am just hoping I am not alone.

Thanks

I'll let you know what I end up doing, bananie. Incidentally, it's a Law degree that my Company is putting me though! Are you enjoying your course?

I hope so, Ice, I really hope so! x

That's great (not for him, obviously). I'm glad you're enjoying it now!
Put together a constructive dismissal case if they are truly making it an uncomfortable place to work. Companies never like these things to go to court so you could end up being paid off and, then tell your boss to stick it up his arse, become a housewife, have a ton of plastic surgery..... It could be life-changing!!!
Good look in whatever you do!
Sounds like a good idea, so long as the surgery doesn't end up making anyone look like Pete Burns (re. another thread) x
Ahem......do I look like I need plastic surgery?? Feeky chucker! ;)

That's a great idea about the constructive dismissal!! I could totally pay my mortage for a couple of years of the back of that! LOL
I was replying to Wotsits then hun - just to add a bit of jovial banter to the problem of foul bosses. The idea of decreasing your mortgage a little sounds good though! x
You seem to me to be in a lucky position Dakota.

What about the people who do have s*it jobs, just to pay their bills, without no hope of furthering their career?

I worked for a company where the manager was a bitch from hell. Gave all the crap jobs to me, had a real personal hatred towards me. I had to stick with that job, because I had a family to support.

Life is not easy
Yes, I was too LOL, I wast just pulling his/her leg about the plastic surgery :)
Yes.....but it seems to've worked out well for Leslie Ash........

Shirl - it must've been horrible for you, seriously. I think if I was in the position of having a boss who appeared to have a personal vendetta against me, I'd have it out with them face to face - or report it. I think people who enjoy being bitchy & unpleasant must either lead sad lives of their own, or have a serious character flaw.
Why is my position lucky, Shirl? I realise that there are people out there who would happily step into my job, but am I any different? I'm also just dragging myself in every day just to pay my bills.
Ice.Maiden, the manager I worked along side with, had worked for the company for 20 years. No one else in the office would stand up to her. Her personal bullying towards me was noted, but no one had the guts to stand up to her.

I now have a different job. Thank goodness. I now do not dread going to work. But its still as boring as hell, but it pays the bills
Just a form of bullying Shirl. I hate bullying in any form, and I'm glad you managed to get out of the place.
Dakota - I agree. Your position is really no different, in that you HAVE to go in, just to keep on top of things. I'd say that a high percentage of people have to suffer jobs that they hate, or which bore them to death. Horrible, horrible feeling - x
yes happened to me about 10 years ago. I registered with a job agency and just left a few weeks later. Take anything just to get out of it - as several people have said 'life is too short'. We spend so much time at our work that any unhappiness can have a real impact on your life. Good luck in whatever you do!
Im also in your position Cymruambyth1-but its not the management that get me down, its a couple of the office members who are complete b!tches. I hate having to fill in job application forms repeatedly too and sending them off. And how do you take time off to attend interviews if you dont want them to know that you are leaving until you have been offered a job?
I once had a job I loved until I had a run in with the manager. He made a huge blunder and asked me to take the blame to save his skin. I refused and from that day on my life was hell. I made 3 formal grievance complaints about him to head office and he was sacked. I thought that would be the end of it but his 2 deputy managers (who were his best friends) then took over the task of bullying me. I went off sick and took the full six months paid sick leave. I used this time to start a course to retrain for a different career and after the six months was up I continued with the course and earned money by doing bar work & cleaning. I now have the job of my dreams.
It's easier to find a new job if you are actually in work, so start applying for jobs. If you apply & don't get a job, don't look at it as a negative but treat it as a learning experience to brush up your job application/interview skills.
If you do nothing then nothing will change and you'll end up even more depressed. Take control of your life and change it for the better!
Good luck.

A Joannie 10 said, we can spend so much time in work that it can have such an effect on your life. My boyfriend, who has been unemployed for 6 months has just found his dream job and is loving it, which is making it so more difficult when he is coming home saying how great his job (not in a rubbing it in kind of way) It has just got the stage where I am nearly breaking down in work because I cannot stand to go into work anymore. I have applied for jobs but up until now still have no even got an interview, I have GCSE's, A Levels and Project Management diploma and admin skills. So I am hoping something will come up, but I live in a town with lots and lots of hotels, and having previously been a waitress I am contemplating leaving this pretty well paid job to go and wait on. Is that a good or bad move?

Thanks for all your replies it is really helping!
If you are really so desperately unhappy then I'd say go for the waitressing. You could always use it to your advantage on your CV by saying you went waitressing as a temporary measure to improve your Customer service skills!
I have been in your position and can empathise totally, beleive me.One day I had a brainstorm and decided to change careers.I'm nealrly finished my training and thank my lucky stars I took the plunge when I did as i couldn't just leave my job with bills to pay.It took a full 9 months from making the break and applying for a trainingcourse to leaving-I had patience just by knowing I was getting out of that hellhole.it wont happen tommorrow, but if you plan ahead and are determined, dont let your boss get to you.Its not forever, and we've all been there.just think of the day when you hand in your notice, knowing you've stuck it out.If you can suffer that, you'll know you're strong enough to put up with anything.good luck.
p.s if you're that unhappy I;d go for the waitressing, your qualifications will still be there and it will serve as a stopgap till you get the job you deserve.Much better than being unhappy in the way that you are just now.
