Well after watching the programmes from hugh fearnley Whittingstall over the past week I decided that yes free range was my way to go , But i do understand not everyone can afford it ! I did my mid week shopping and low and behold there was no free range to be had , I just thought it had "flew" off the shelves, Right I have been today and ther was no free range stuff on sale at all, I am beginning to think that asda and tesco have took it off the shelves to make us buy there cheap stuff, anyone else had any problems , ???

I have gone into my local Tesco's and sainsbury's several times this week...and there has been very little freerange available. In Tesco-it looked as if they don't stock much except for whole chickens, while at sainsbury's there is usually a full range of products.
Hopefully everyone thought the same as you and they bought all the free range and those programmes have made a difference. You could always buy it from a butcher, it is often cheaper than the best supermarket stuff plus it tastes even better and you'll be supporting local shops too.
Where I work we have always sold free range Organic chickens and we could sell them 10 times over, they are really good. After the chicken programmes had been on we sold out in 24 hours but our farmer just can't produce any more.
congrats Tufty on goin free range xx. Asda in my town are awful at stocking most things that are free range. On another note, i bought some carrot from there too only to find they had gone mushy the next day!! if you type in Farmers Markets into the web you will find all the places where markets are being held that sell organic, free range etc. I live near leeds UK and our farmers market is amazing.
good luck on your search.

Hi Tufty7
I cant believe this, was just about to ask the same thing. Since the programme I have only bought Free Range Organic chicken and eggs. The shelves in Tesco now are always RAMMED with the cheap chickens and the shelf for the free range next to it, is always empty, I always manage to find the last one right at the back. The other day there were six of us asking the staff if they had more free range, when he said no but we have these (pointed the the 2 for 5), every single one of us said no and left it - YAY!!!! Im really pleased this programme was done, it seems people are actually doing something about it, including me. x
I have always bought my meat from our butcher anyway but I went in on Saturday morning this week to find that they had run out of chickens! I put it down to the impact of the TV progs.
I went to Tesco yesterday and bought some breasts from the Willow Farm range. These are the chickens that are kept in the barn but have more room to roam and have things to play with and haystacks to jump on etc. They also get sunlight coming through.

These chickens cost a bit more than the cheap ones but less than free range.
