WMP 10 Freezing

My WMP 10 freezes everytime it starts to play a song for the first 14 seconds. During this time the whole PC freezes and is very very annoying. I have looked on google and it seems this is a common problem. There is nothing in add/remove programs to find a way of uninstalling it and reinstall again (including updates section) I dont want to upgrade to WMP 11 as I dont like the look of it.

Any ideas?

It's possible that it's trying to look up info on the net and being blocked by your firewall.
