Just watching Father of the Bride and thinking to myself that I don't know anyone who moved in with their partner when they got married, they ALL lived together first.

Anyone know anyone who did it the old fashioned way?

I dont know anyone alive that has, although my geneology research suggests a lot of my partners family lived in their childhood home until marriage, then they lived in a marital home.

maybe us younger folk just cant wait??
I did it the old fashioned way 36 years ago and we are still the best of friends lovers ETC !!!!.

There was stigma about "living over the brush"! My mum and stepdad never got married, been together over 30 years and don't see the point now (except for tax reasons"). My grandad wasn't impressed at first but gave up mentioning it in the end.

Best to try before you buy!
my sister did. She and her husband went out for about 8 years, bought their first house and he lived in it alone for at least 6 months until they got married. This was in the early 90s as they married in 92. Thought it was odd at the time esp as I have been co-habiting with the same partner for 26 years now myself!
I did first time round -it would never have entered my head to co-habit-and even now I am surpised that anyone would be surpised that peeps just dont wade in together.

BTW I am the most liberal person you will ever meet but respect does come into it as well. That in no way is disrespectful to anyone who does co-habit.
