I'm using BT with a netgear wireless router. At the least the spped it 24Mbps, at most 48Mbps. Is this normal?

Also why should it run slower anyway? Is there any way of telling if anyone is using my network?

I have a linksys router and I can get a log report in the admin pages.

This would tell me if anybody else was using my network.

I don't know if your router has the same facility.
I have a netgear router and if you enable the security, no-one else should be able to access your router. If you use it without the security enabled, anyone in range could use your router to get on the net. I was able to use my neighbour's network before I warned her to get it encrypted.
