I'm buying a second hand car that currently has no tax at all. I'm unable to tax it until I get the documents and I won't get the documents until I've purchased the car! Does anyone know how I stand legally on this? Am I allowed to drive the car home and tax it asap? Is there a 2 week grace period?

When I bought my car second-hand, I asked the seller to tax it and include the cost of tax in the price and he had it taxed when I went to collect it.
Pay half the money, the car stays where it is until taxed, you pay the other half when you collect it.
Or find someone with a trailer to bring it back - don't risk driving it untaxed, there is no grace period.
The only time you can drive an untaxed vehicle is to a pre-arranged MOT. I did this once, a 10 minute journey, was spotted driving an untaxed vehicle and had to jump through hoops to prove I was driving legally - very annoying.
follow this link it tells you how to get tax with or without documentation.
