Double or single oven?

Myself & my partner are getting a new double oven delivered this weekend to replace the single overn which is in the house (the same one as when we moved in)

My partners mother has turned her nose up at the double oven & seems to think that single ovens are the way to go.

Although this is only a minor irritation it has infuriated me because she thinks that if you get something she doesn't like, then it's the wrong thing to get.

Anyway, my question is, what is better, a single oven for a double oven & why?

Thanks & sorry for the rant.

I could not live with a single oven.

Most days I am grilling in the top oven whilst roasting or baking in the bottom oven. How can you do that with a single oven?

Or I use the smaller top oven for pies and so on - more economical than using the big oven.

I am sure you will love the flexibility your new double oven gives you - for small dishes you can use the smaller oven and save on fuel costs. The smaller one usually contains the grill, so you can have the grill on at the same time as the larger oven if you need to. When you have larger sized meals to heat or are cooking for loads of people then the larger oven comes into its own.... or you can have both ovens going at the same time. Finally, double ovens are usually mounted higher than single ones so you can forget about all that bending over !

Now, are you sure your partner's mother will not turn her nose up at the colour you have chosen ? (sorry, couldn't help that !)
I agree with both answers. Moving house 3years ago meant buying a new cooker, havng had a double oven for many years and knowing how many more choices it gave, I didn't even consider a single oven. Go ahead and enjoy using it, she'll soon learn to appreciate it too.
Maybe she's jealous or maybe she just doesn't do much in the way of cooking so genuinely doesn't see the point. But you're buying it for you, not her and if you enjoy cooking then you'll definitely get the use out of it so it's the right thing for you to buy.
I've got a single oven with the grill contained, it came with the kitchen a friend supplied and fitted for us- definite mistake! Can only agree with all the comments, enjoy in the knowledge you've made the right choice, I'll definitely be getting a double oven when I have a new kitchen this year.
100% agree with all .I am the same as ori single oven grill in the oven absolutely hopeless go for it beechy.
I have a double oven - brilliant for Christmas, roasts and dinner parties. Also good if you want to bake at the same time as cooking a meal
Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me!

If you don't need to use both ovens then you only switch one on - easy

What is her reasoning

PS My m in law is exactly the same - her opinion is always the right one!
there's nothing quite like cooking yer yorkshire pudds on a very high heat in the top oven whilst your meat and roasties are doing very nicely at a lower heat down below. Good old Sunday dinner !
As a kitchen designer in training, its hard to say which is best. I personally, would have 2 single ovens side by side, a micro combi oven and a steam oven. I often find double ovens quite useless because if you're cooking for a dinner party, you dont really need to be grilling anything in the top, and thats usually what they are, just grills. Although Neff have a double oven with fans in both ovens, which is useful, but i think its just down to personal taste, how much cooking you do, and the space limitations.

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would think one oven would be better than having two. Maybe it's just me.....
I wouldn't be without our double oven cooker. It's so useful when you have lots of people to dinner - food can also be kept warm in the top oven too - hence nice hot meals! I wouldn't give it another thought Beechy, as you'll find in time that you've made the right decision....

Sorry about the double posting - the first reply dropped out, then presented itself!
i had a double oven, bought on advice from my mum - loved it. moved in with boyfreind and his single oven and its really hard to cook meals, you either have to grill or oven. double oven, defo. ignore her quietly in the knowledge you have made the best choice xx
I have just gone from a single oven to a double and definately would agree that the double oven is the way to go. I can use the second oven to heat plates or for extra cooking space for when I am doing a large meal. The only downside that I can see is that the grill is in the second oven which limits the use if you need the grill, but luckily I also have a combi microwave which then becomes my third oven! I struggle to see why anyone would think that a single oven is better than a double one.
Cheers Sue
if you have the room for it get a double oven especialy if you like cooking you can cook in large quantaties and freeze it take no notice of your mother in law its your decision. you dont have to use the two ovens but the other one is there if you need it i would'nt be without mine
