That's a good question - and I'd like to know the answer too. I don't think the pope receives a salary, since all his needs are met by the church, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I think they have been struggling for a while. Around here they are selling off church lands. Settlements paid to victims of sexual abuse by members of the clergy have been quite expensive over the past few years.
