Rodz back from Tenerife
Hi,
Just back from a two month stint in the sun,
Home for two weeks then back until March 2008.
Anyone want any info or updates or advice on anything Tenerife Sur, just ask.

Hi,
Palm Mar is doing well but as always building is slow.
Nearly bought there five years ago but glad I didn`t.
If you are young it is a good place to invest for the long term.
How long is it since you saw it?
It is a nice community, very mixed, English, German and now Russian.
Seems quiet but with no trouble.
Bars and restaurants now open.
If you wanted something more lively you would still have to go to Las Americas.
They where very clever in that the construction started quite along way back from the sea, people thought they had a sea view but then construction went further and further towards the sea leaving the earlier built apartments with less of a view. The rule is never believe anything they say, it there`s a square inch of land in a prime spot it will be built on.
They throw rustica at you saying it is equal to our green belt, but it isn`t.
You need a car or have to use the mafia (taxi drivers), they won`t allow buses down as they won`t on the golf either.
Depends whether you want quiet or lively, Palm Mar is quiet and nice and will be very nice when it is done in ten years.
Horses for courses, it would be too quiet for some people.
Anything else, ask.

I split my winter up, I have a small place in Las Geranios in Torviscos and stay there until Mid December, then come home for a couple of weeks to sort our any rubbish back home.
We go back on Boxing day until March and stay at our other place in Port Royale which is up near Beverley Hills and Hollywood Mirage in Cristianos.
Hope it doesn`t come over as conceited, they are only studios.
It`s two differant hols really, Torviscos is all go with all the restaurants and bars.
We tend to go to the beach or around the pool during the day and then go out at aroud 10 pm.
Trouble is after you have seen every act on the island there arn`t many you want to see again.
Tend to go to bars with something on though, like quizes.
Our pad in Cristianos is differant very quiet with suberb views ,tend to use the balcony there in the day and again go out at night, prefer Cristianos for eating, sussed out the good tapas bars for lazy long lunchs.
Done all the trips so tend not to bother now.
Waiting for Siam Park to open, told by a worker there it will be another year.
Hire a car now and then to have a flirt around the island.

I still think Palm Mar is good for the long term, know what you mean about the take up of the locales though, take years sometimes.

Going back to buying in Palm Mar or indeed Tenerife.
I tend to think it`s better to buy where you know they cannot alter anything in front of you even if your view is partially restricted rather than what you think is front line only to see a block go up in front of you. Seen it so many times.
Will you be buying from plan in Palm Mar or resale?

Hi Rodz, can you recommend a resort in Tenerife, suitable for middle aged couple, must be quiet and pretty, but within 5 miles of a town or village for shopping purposes. No bright lights or roads full of bars, or Discos. We are just looking for somewhere to enjoy peace and quiet. Within easy access to the beach.

Hi Rodz, have never been to Tenerife before, but I can answer your questions. Will be going in the 1st two weeks in Sept next year, possibly self catering, but open to hotels as long as they are quiet. May even try a villa. We need to be close to the beaches, but nowhere near bars or karaoke clubs.
We would prefer something very peaceful, pretty, within access say 5kms of nearest town or village so we can shop for groceries. We are not looking to be completely cut off, but our last holiday in Lanzarote absolutely killed it for us, so noisy, dirty, full of lager louts (Brits) traffic all through the night, and this was supposed to be a quiet resort (Costa Teguise) I vowed I would never return to the CI's, but I must be fair and give it a 2nd chance, but on a different island. You mention the word pretty, none of the Canary Islands are that pretty, rugged spectacular but not pretty.
Lanzarote is my least favouite island, Tenerife is a lot bigger and more varied.
The first two weeks in September you would get away with Majorca or a greek Island.
We use Tenerife from Oct unti March when everywhere else is to iffy, just got back a few days ago and we we still sat out at midnight in just a short sleeve shirt and my wife in a light top.
Really is a winter destination to me, in fact there are more visitors in winter than in summer.
The whole of the south of Tenerife is dry and quite barren bit like a spaggeti western, but it`s warm.
The north is prettier and one area where you may find a villa is the Oratava Valley.
Taking everything you have said especially rowdy bars etc. the area going south west from Fanabe to Caletta has superb hotels close to beach and near to shopping but still away from the bars.
The hotels are 4 or 5 stars and fairly expensive.
Costa Adeje Gran, Hotel Jardin de Nivaria, Sheraton and the famous Bahia del Duque (very expensive). Ther eare two three star in the area Altamira and Jardin Caletta.
Caletta was a little fishing village and has still retained some charm, quite a few good fish restaurants some expensive but some not and no rows of bars or idiots.
The area from Fanabe to Caletta is only a couple of miles and is quite pleasant all of it being on the beach, some imported sand beachs but other naturally rocky.
Another alternative is Hotel Jardin Tecina on Gomera, I am told this is pretty and quiet, you will find it in a search engine.
You would have to get the ferry from Cristianos (50 mins crossing) to San Sebastion the capital, Not a tourist place San Sebastion.
It`s a green island with loads of walks but very steep.
The trips on Tenerife are very good.

Hi Rodz, I am very grateful for your reply, and have printed it off, what you suggest is very much on our wave length, as you have probably guessed I have been going to Greece and her Islands for over 30 years now and have never had a bad holiday, what I like about Greece is the stunning scenery on different isles, the people, the food & the weather of course, but my husband insists I see more of the world instead of Greece. Little does he know I have visited 56 countries to his 10. Still I am prepared to give anything a go. You went into great depth to send me all that information, I am deeply grateful thank you so much. I'll let you know how I get on.
