since my rover has had its head gasket repaired (4 weeks ago) by a professional garage the car now idles irratically. it is fine once you go up the revs but i have also noticed that if im trying to drive with low rev's the car judders badly. i have spoken to the garage who say its the idle control valve and they will get a price. but so far no matter how much i ring them or even go and see them they just fob me off saying the Rover parts dealer hasn't got back to them. it never went in to them like this and i dont see why i should pay for something thats obviously broke at the garage any ideas on what i should do?????

Best bet is citizens advice, it is free or tell them you are taking legal advice on the matter and see if that puts the wind up them. As a mechanic I would say their diagnosis is correct. Good Luck FT
one way for you to test the ilde contol is to disconnet it at the air box whilst engine is running, if the revs balence out then the part is at fault but buy one at a scrap yard . but make sure you get one off the same model or your fuelling will all be to pot ,should cost 10-20 quid
sounds like there is a crack in the cylinder head, this could have been your original problem (rather than a replacement head gasket)
you can also get an aa inspection if you are really worried..
