I know I have asked a similar question, but please give me some advice.
I was involved in a car accident 6 years ago, someone died and I was given an 18 month prison sentence but only served 7 months.
I am going to the US next year, whats the chances of me getting a visa?
I cannot just go and risk it, as I may be sent back home of they check my record.

how many times do we have to say this, the US do NOT have any access to british criminal records, unless you have committed serious breaches of british security,ie imported tons of class A drugs or been involved in terroist activity, then you will be fine entering the USA on the visa waiver form, hundreds do it every year, and i know of loads of people with records who have had no problems at all,if you apply for a visa you will be turned down straight away.and then you will never be allowed in as you will be on there files.

What offence were you convicted of?

If it's not a crime of 'moral turpitude' (and surprisingly few motoring offences are, not even drunk driving) then it will not debar you from using the visa waiver scheme

Actually Normanthedog, they do. I spoke with the police yesterday who informed me that the states have access to the national database.
If I risked not telling them and they decided to look at my record while I was going through immigration, I would be deported.
Airport security and customs in the USA do not have direct access to UK records
People behind the customs desks do not have access to this information. Obviously they could get the info if they requested it from the UK authorities but as far as having the info at their fingers they don't.
