I don't know if he ever got sponsorship from a mic company, but if not then the previously mentioned John Otway should have done. During his stage act he used to throw them, swallow them, bounce them off of the floor, tie the cables in knots (much to the distress of his roady) and finish his set with a Wild Willy Barrett song called headbutts - which involved John and very members of the band and stage crew headbutting microphones. Otway could be seen with blood pouring down his face and apparently now has a dent in his forehead from this continued abuse of innocent sound equipment. I've not seen Otway for a few years, but if he still does this then the Top Of The Pops appearence that will undoubtably come after his next hit "Bunsen Burner" will be something to see.
By the way, I didn't realise Otway was a theremin player - is he any good?
Apparantly an excellent theramin player (anyone would be, compared with Mike Love) - he got the instrument as a birthday present from his fans. Nice, but this year's present will be even better: the aforementioned Hit!
