I was told that it's dearer to just switch a strip light on, than run it for eight hours. Is this true? Does it use more electricity turning it on than leaving it on for a long time? Any experts out there? Thanks.

I watched this myth being busted on mythbusters recently. Unless you are going to turn your light back on in the next 20-30 seconds you would save money by turning it off. This only applys to striplights - as with most other types of light you are better off turning them off anyway.
