We are flying longhaul real soon and it wil be a struggle for my husband not smoking - it was bad enough before 1st July but since no smoking in airport building has come in i really dread the airport/plane part of the holiday. He obviously wont smoke cos he's not allowed to but i know he will be SO grumpy. when you add the check in times + flight times i am almost afraid of the thought (i cant contemplate a delay!!). So my question is how do other smoker tollerate this??

Well BusyBee you stirred up a whole cauldren there! I am a smoker (yes, boo, hiss, I know) and I have flown long haul about 5 times in the last two or three years. I always use the nicotine lozenges. You place them on your gum and the nicotine gets in your blood system that way. You don't suck them, just let them dissolve slowly on your gum. I decided against the patches as I heard that some people were allergic to them, and as I have a few allergies myself I didn't want to risk it on a long haul flight! I can fly to New York just using one or two lozenges. I do try to take them out whilst eating as if I swallow them they give me hiccups! It's not as good as a cigarette, but it sufficies. I liken it to wanting a cup of tea and only getting coffee (or vice versa), it's warm and wet and contains caffeine, but it's not quite what you wanted! I'm sure your husband will cope, I certainly have.
