Photo expiration on licence

I know that the field 4b on the front of the licence gives the date which the photo expires. What I cannot seem to find anywhere is whether the DVLA send out reminders or must I remember to do this myself? Anyone know?

I was reading on the DVLA site earlier that after a photo change the licence is valid 10 years and they will send out a reminder.
