My hubby wants to start doing Karaoke, up to now he has been using someone elses kit but wants to buy his own. Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas on where to start? Also we wondered if you could have all your music on a laptop and run it from there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can run it on a laptop. This site here explains all about starting a Karaoke business: http://karaoke-tutor.com/system.html
Hi newly wed, I dJ and would advise against karaoke lol.

Too many drunks using your equipment, too many bad singers, the ballache of keeping your song books updated etc etc plus the big thing is you will get less money for karaoke than you will for being an ordinary DJ. I very rarely get asked if I do karaoke thankfully.

As far as the laptop goes, 95% of the stuff I play is straight off the laptop, but in effect its like having a CD player, you still need to wire it through a mixing desk, amplifier, speakers but it is a god send.

Let me know how he gets on!

Expect to pay well over a grand, then theres transporting it, and the actual karaoke cd's can be a fortune if you don't know anyone with them. All in all I spent about 2500 on my kit which included lights, lasers, smoke machine, digital display etc and 800 for a van.

But if your any good u can earn 300+ for 2 nights work so you soon get it back.

Thanks cheeky for the link.
Rev. I agree with the drunks/bad singers lol!! Do you have some sort of media player, DJ software that enables you to fade songs in and out, the majority of what he will do will be just DJing (is that a word?) but he has been asked to do a bit of Karaoke on New Years Eve and the odd one in the new year. He has already bought mixing deck, amp speakers lights etc. Do you have your music on your laptop or a memory stick. Thanks in advance for your help.
