guinea pig with bald spot?

our guinea who is 6mths old has developed a bald patch behind his ear so I have scoured the tinternet looking for what could be wrong some sites are saying its perfectly normal for guineas to have bald spots behind thier ears others are saying it could be mites??? i am confused about the conflicting answers so what does anyone else think? would be grateful for anything about this please oh and if it is mite what do i treat it with? thanx in advance all xxx

If its mites he will be scratching a lot. If it doesnt get any worse and the skin is not pink of inflamed i wouldnt worry. If the patch gets bigger or sore take him to the vets who may do a skin scraping to check 4 mites.
Could it be male pattern baldness?

I would take it to the vet - don't try treating him yourself. They are so tiny that it would be easy to overdose him on whatever you give him.

thanks yes it would be best for me to take him to the vet just to be sure will do it in the week he doesnt seem to be irritated by it but its best to be safe. thanks all xx
