Hi, my cat has just turned 1 year old and is obviously not completely fully grown yet. I have had big problems finding food that he likes and have recently been very tough with him and refused to throw the food away so it was a case of eat or starve!! My problem now is that I have started to buy the pouches of catfood rather than tins as he likes these much more but I noticed it recommends that an adult cat has 3-4 a day and I worked out that my cat is having 5-6. Not only is this going to work out expensive is it too much or does he need the extra because of his age? His weight looks fine to me and he is very active.

5 or 6 pouches does seem a bit much. Does he have biscuit as well or just the wet food? It could be that he's just a growing lad but has he been wormed recently?

Yes he has been wormed on a regular basis and he does have dry food as well but only seems to snack on this, I think he is just greedy!
Cats are cats and that means they're skilled manipulators.

On the food front, how would you like it if the only food on offer was spam, spam spam? Get a range of brands for him. Supermarkets are helpful because they have different offers. Everyday give him some premium stuff he likes and some average stuff he'll eat if he's hungry.

He should get a max of 4 packs a day, but that assumes he eats it all. Give him smaller portions. Try a big breakfast, a big evening tea and a smaller portion for dinner and supper.

Just because he seems to be begging for food doesn't mean he's hungry. He could just be bored and be lookinig for attention and affection.

Also find out what your cat does. If he's a house cat he probably won't be getting much exercise unless you make a point of playing with him. If he's bored then all he'll do is eat, sleep, eat.

Hope that helps.
My cats drive me nuts begging for fooooood. It is Frankie's favourite word.

They are clever when it comes to manipulating stupid humans.

Does your cat make sure that you get up early so that it can get fed nice and early? They are evil animals. :-)
That amount is recommended as a way of selling mre cat food. My cat has half a puch in the morning and half in the evening, each with a few sprinkles of dried food. She is an indoor cat so an outdoor cat will need a bit more, but definately no more that 2 pouches a day. Some cats will just eat what you give them because they are greedy, Try and lessen it or the cat will probably get obese.
