Hi, I'm an existing HSBC credit card customer, also having savings and current account with them. They are currently running a great offer of 4.9% on balance balance transfers made within 30 days, the rate applying til 2012.

I'm tired of 'tarting' so this would be a good deal in the long term as long as I only transferred & didn't make purchases on the card.

Has anyone managed to get their bank to give them a "new customers" deal even if they are an existing customer? I'm a bit crap on the phone so thought I'd ask advice first, then maybe I can attempt to challenge them - after all I have about 4K on various cards; they'd surely still make some money out of me?

Be prepared before you telephone. Find several 0% credit cards - make a note of them and the offers.

Now make that phone call. Ask them if they are prepared to give you this offer. If not, tell them you will be transferring your balance to a new 0% card in that case.

I bet they change their minds.

Let us know how you get on.
Goldfish are offering 3.9% until 2010 - it that any good to you?
